Multiple Teams · Wolves Football Team To Appear In MC Snowflake Parade

It is official!

The 2017 MCHS Wolves football team will be participating in this year’s Snowflake Parade!
The Wolves will be partnering with the MCFD to ride in this year’s parade.  This will be the city’s chance to honor the team for a great season!!  The only question is will we be celebrating a final four finish, a runner-up finish, or a state championship?!?!?
The parade runs on Franklin Street, and goes from 10th street to the MC Public Library.  The parade is set to kick off at 4pm on Saturday, December 2nd.

Multiple Teams · Meet the Wildkats, the Wolves next opponent

Friday night the Wolves football team will make the journey to Kokomo to play the first ever Semi-State level football game in the 116 year history of high school football in Michigan City Indiana.

The Wildkats have a interesting streak the squad from City would like to keep alive.  In 2015, Kokomo won their first ever Regional title, and lost at Semi-State to the eventual state champions, Fort Wayne Snyder.  The following season the Wildcats won their Sectional for the 2nd year in a row, but lost to Westfield… who went on to be the State Champions of 5A football.  Can the Wolves make it 3 years in a row?

Looking at the Kokomo 2017 team in depth, they are the very definition of late bloomers. The got out of the gates slowly starting the season losing 3 of their first 5 games, including losses to Hamilton Southeastern, McCutcheon, and Layfayette Jeff.  The Wildkats have gone 6-1 since that point, including avenging losses to both McCutcheon and Harrison from the regular season during the playoffs.  Kokomo comes in at 8-4 on the season.  Much like Michigan City they play in the solid North Central Conference, which is more famous for its exploits on the hardwood versus the gridiron, but it was a conference that contained 5 of the top 64 teams in the state of Indiana according to the Sagarin computer ratings.

The similarities don’t stop there.  The Wildkats didn’t win their conference, finishing tied for 4th in the NCC at a conference mark of 4-3.  The Wolves tied for 2nd at 5-2.  The Sagarin computers rank the Wolves currently at #36 overall, with the Wildkats at #46. City owns a rating of 76.85, Kokomo 74.22, meaning the Wolves would be about a 2.5 point favorite on a neutral field.  The Kokomo strength of schedule was also strong, ranking at #32 versus City’s #54 (which would be much higher if out of state Homewood Flossmor were included).  The schools are also almost identical in enrollment numbers as City is 48th at 1753, with Kokomo 45th at 1769 kids.

But that is where the similarities end.  The Kats make their mark on the defensive end of the football.  It is a team that has created 20 turnovers on the season, including 13 interceptions.  They have also stood tall ahead of the end zone allowing only 16.8 points per game.  That has improved to 12 points per game in the playoffs.

Offensively the team isn’t incredibly dynamic, but they are effective.  They come in averaging 26.2 points per game.  They are heavily weighted towards the run game, as they have over 2300 yards on the ground for the season, and almost 1400 through the air.  While they favor the run, their quarterback Kyle Wade is a senior who has thrown for over 4000 yards over his four years with the Kats.  The team has 7 players who are over 150 yards total on the ground for the season, including 4 over 300 yards.  Their top two runners are Wade with 477, and 506 yards from Jack Perkins.  The Wildkats look to control tempo with their running game, and they wait for the defense to create opportunities and short-fields.

Kickoff for the Semi-State match up will be at 7pm Michigan City time, or 8pm local time way down in Kokomo. Tickets are now available in the Michigan City High School Athletic Office.  Tickets will be available at the Michigan City High School Athletic office from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Thursday, and only until 2:30pm on Friday.  Anyone wanting to purchase tickets early should go to the back door on the southwest side of the Wolf Pack Gym, and hit the intercom to request entry into the building.  The building does stay locked during school hours, so you will need to be buzzed in.  Tickets are $10 for everyone of school age or older.  NO PASSES will be accepted for this game, nor any of the post season tournament games for the rest of the year.  EVERYONE MUST BUY A TICKET.

Michigan City Area Schools will also be offering two fan buses for travel to this Friday’s game.

There will be a bus for students, and there will be a bus for adults and staff.  The cost will be $12, which covers your game ticket for $10 and $2 for the bus ride.  MCAS staff will get a $2 discount, and will only pay $10.  Students and other adults will pay $12. The bus for adults and staff is open to all Michigan City area fans, not just staff and faculty of MCAS.

The buses will leave from the front of Michigan City High School at 4pm on Friday, and will return directly after the game.  Sign up for both buses will be in the Athletic Office all week long, ending Friday 2:30pm.

If you can’t make it down to Kokomo, the IHSAA is featuring this game as a game of the week, and can be streamed live via the internet at IHSAA.org.
