Wolves News · MCAS COVID-19 closure: How does it affect Wolves Athletics?

On Friday, March 13th, the Michigan City Area Schools implemented an extended period of eLearning and the closure of MCAS buildings through April 12th with staff returning on Monday, April 13th and classes tentatively scheduled to resume on Tuesday, April 14th. The final week of this layoff coincides with the regularly scheduled spring break.

During this period of closure, the MCHS Athletic Department will be observing a full moratorium of activities. In observance of the intended purpose of coronavirus prevention, coaches have been directed not to instruct or encourage athletes to gather in any location.

If there are no changes to the dates involved with the closure, practices for all spring programs will resume on Tuesday, April 14th. The Indiana High School Athletic Association requires a minimum amount of practices in each sport prior to a program’s first contest. Schedules will be altered in the coming weeks with an emphasis placed on Duneland Conference competitions.

As of Friday, March 13th, the IHSAA has stated that it still plans on running its state tournaments in each of the spring sports – boys, girls, and unified track and field, girls tennis, softball, baseball, and boys golf. Whether those tournaments are contested is contingent upon the guidance of the State of Indiana and health officials.
