Game Recap

The Michigan City Wolves get a running left handed shot which used the backboard and practically all of the rim before falling in to win the game from move-in Keishawn Lewis to defeat the Cardinals of East Chicago Central High by a final score of 64-63.

Lewis put the City on his back and willed his team to victory scoring the last four points for the Wolves in the last 15.7 seconds of the game. Lewis finished with a team high 19 points against his former team. Lewis was quick to defer the credit to all of his team saying,

“My team won. It’s not about me scoring the last point, it is about the team getting the win.”

The game was never further than six points apart the entire night as it looked a lot like two heavy weights trying to delivery the knock out punch, but neither fight was willing to fall.

Dante Combs backed up the Lewis effort with 17 points of his own, including 5 rebounds and 2 steals in his stat line. Jaronde Boyd nailed 4 three pointers to lead him to 14 points, plus 3 assists and two steals. Sophomore Rayshon Howard got the first start of his high school career, and despite giving up somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 pounds to his East Chicago counterpart, managed to pull down a team high 9 rebounds, including 4 on the offensive glass, plus 4 points of his own. Makiyah Smallwood had 4 points for City, Matt Westman had 3, and Troy Jones pitched in two points to go with 2 assists and a steal.

The Wolves improve to 3-2 on the season with the win. East Chicago Central came into tonight ranked #8 in The Region according to the NWI Times, and falls to 4-4 on the season, after playing their sixth game in 13 days. Michigan City will travel out to play Penn HS this Saturday night, weather permitting.
