Game Recap

The Wolves get a record setting performance on the opening night game of the 2016-2017 season with a 40 point win against Concord High School. That 40 point breaks the post consolidation record previous biggest margin of victory which was 38 points first set in the 2001-2002 season against Hammond Gavit HS, and matched last season against Von Stuben HS. The Wolves also own a 36 point win against Marquette in 2008.

City actually trailed early 9 to 7, but then turned up the defensive intensity to turn in a top notch performance. City created 14 steals and only gave up 12 points over the last 3 quarters (24 minutes) of the game. Concord scored 4 points in each of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters.

In his first action for Michigan City High School Keishawn Lewis had a big effort scoring a game high 16 points and pulling down a game high 7 rebounds, 6 of them on the offensive glass. Jaronde Boyd was the other player in double figures tonight for City as he poured in 11 points.

In a game full of firsts 5 players off of the City bench scored their first points as Varsity players with Michael Briggs Jr, Edward French, Will Hanyard, Salih Washington, and Javion Reid all hitting the scoring sheet with 4, 1, 2, 6 and 1 point respectively.

The rest of the scoring run down for City had Dante Combs with 9 points and 3 rebounds, Matt Westman with 7 points and 3 rebounds, plus 2 steals. Troy Jones had 5 points to go with 5 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist. Makiyah Smallwood starting his first game in the middle for City tallied 4 points and a game high 3 steals.

The entire City 14 man roster varsity roster played in this one, and had gotten into the game by the 3rd quarter.

City’s next game will be their first road game as they travel out to South Bend Riley to face the #14 ranked Wildcats in Riley’s first game of their season.
