The Michigan City Wolves Cross Country team has advanced to the Semi-State meet by virtue of its 5th place finish at the New Prairie Regional meet on Saturday at NPHS.
The Wolves were led by meet winner and senior Byron Berg who chopped a full 15 seconds off of his former personal best 5K time finishing 13 second ahead of 2nd place. Berg clocked a blazing 15:44 time in his first place finish.
The Wolves backed up Berg by packing 3 other runners into the top 20. Noah Scherf finished 14th; Jacob Adams, who also advanced to the state finals in the 800 last spring, finished 16th overall; and Loukas Karallas finished 20th. City’s 5th and final scoring runner was freshman sensation Damian Albisu, who finished 74th overall, but scored 56th for the Wolves. No team managed to put more runners into the fastest 20 runners in the meet than Michigan City High School’s team did.
Times out of the rest of the scoring runners for City included 16:40 for Scherf, 16:46 for Adams, 16:52 for Karallas, and 19:02 for Albisu. Michigan City’s Regional squad also included William Watts and Logan Haas.
On the girls side of things, City will send a single athlete to Semi-State by virtue of sophomore star Paula Jimenez Caseda’s 26th place finish overall at a time of 20:30. City was also represented in Regionals by Kayla Walsworth, Samantha Chappell, and Brikea Sherrod.
Both semi-state meets will also take place at New Prairie High School on Saturday the 22nd. The cost to get in is $5, and the meets will kick off at 10 am Eastern time.
